In this economy, revamp your wardrobe instead of spending that $$

How to Add Lace Yokes to Your Dress Shirt...

The Finished Product
bluedresshirt

Instructions

  1. Cut off sleeves, fold under and sew. You can also leave this unfinished for a more raw look
  2. Decide where you would like to crop the shirt.  I also finished this by turning up the raw ends and sewing for the more polished and finished look.  If you decide to do that, make sure you compensate for it by adding 1/2" more onto the shirt otherwise the shirt may end up shorter than anticipated.  I turned the ends up about 1/2″ so I cut it a 1/2″ longer.
  3. Decide where you want the yokes and the style. I choose a “sweetheart” style. NOTE: before cutting, mark where you want the yokes in order to prevent cutting too much fabric.  Remember, you can always cut more if need be, so start with cutting a smaller hole than you think. You don't want to reveal too much!
  4. Cut out your yokes.  To make it easier, cut from the shoulder seam to the armhole seam (follow the shirts seams).  Don’t cut into the entire sleeve-hole! See the pictures below for reference.
  5. To be quick and easy, I sewed the lace directly on. If you don't want to sew the lace onto the shirt, you can even purchase fabric glue and glue it instead.  When I sewed the lace, I pinned the lace underneath the dress shirt so I could easily sew right around.  (Note: if using the fabric glue this garmet should be hand washed with a milk detergent and layed flat to dry.)
  6. Using the width of my presser foot (1/4″) as a guide, I sewed all around the lace applique attaching it from the right side.
  7. And you’re done! Quick and easy! You now have a new one-of-a-kind piece and didn't have to drop a lot of $ $ to have it!
Hope you enjoyed!!  Let me know if you have any creative projects to share or need help with your creativity.  I would be happy to help.
