It's been a while...

Living in NYC and spring is here!
The beauty of the big apple is the freedom of expression. This city is full of fashionistas and style disasters. The wonderful thing is that it doesn't matter. No one judges - or at least there is no need to. Being abnormal with your fashion is the normal. So enjoy. Wear your ugly faux boots with that sequen halter.  Smear blue lipstick and put in those fake color extensions.  NYC I love you and your weirdness. I'm back at blogging and the weird, beautiful and ugly are all coming here.

Dedicated to Ali! Boots Under $50....

Boots Under $50

Whether tall and slouchy or short and structured, this season Butters & Dash Fashion have you (and your feet) covered with the hottest fall 2011 boot trends—from edgy ankle wedges and menswear-inspired lace-ups to traditional stacked leather heels and classic riding boots. Here are some classic tall boots for your liking. Bonus: these shopping-savvy options, under $50!

This is dedicated to my cousin Ali who is in college. She asked me where she could find boots that were classy and budget-friendly. These options are time-less and chic. Plus when at the college party or football game you don't have to worry about ruining that pricey pair you pull out when going to dinner with the girls.

I'm love with anything animal print- even if it's a crazy cat hat.

24 Beauty Secrets from Hollywood Insiders (they didn't want you to know!)

What do Hollywood beauty insiders (and their celebrity clients) know that we don't? After this article, not much.

1. Get featured
"Every woman has one thing that she needs to 'fix' on her face and one thing that's really great about it. If you're not sure what they are, ask your best friend." -- Stila Cosmetics founder Jeanine Lobell

2. Brighten eyes

"Smudge a bit of deep navy eyeliner on the inner rims of the upper lids when you're done with the rest of your eye makeup. Gently lifting lashes with your fingers or glancing down into a handheld mirror will help you see where the eyeliner is going. The blue color makes the whites of your eyes stand out." -- Makeup artist Carmindy

Fun Make-Up Tips For This Season...

This fall definitely is focused on bold lips and eyebrows, dewy cheeks, and natural hues.  Here are some quick tips to help you apply these simple looks that compliment any face.

FLORAL MATTE LIPSTICK
Delicate shades of pink and peach make lips appear petal-soft, while vibrant reds and coral venture into hothouse territory. Dab color on the center of the lips and draw it out toward the corners with a lip brush to add volume to the lips. Try L'OrĂ©al Paris Colour Riche Lipcolour in British Red.

I love throwing on a gorgeous deep red lip shade for the day, and when going out for a cocktail at happy hour I top my lip color with a clear gloss to amflify the color and make it pop.

In this economy, revamp your wardrobe instead of spending that $$

How to Add Lace Yokes to Your Dress Shirt...

The Finished Product
bluedresshirt

Instructions

  1. Cut off sleeves, fold under and sew. You can also leave this unfinished for a more raw look
  2. Decide where you would like to crop the shirt.  I also finished this by turning up the raw ends and sewing for the more polished and finished look.  If you decide to do that, make sure you compensate for it by adding 1/2" more onto the shirt otherwise the shirt may end up shorter than anticipated.  I turned the ends up about 1/2″ so I cut it a 1/2″ longer.

It's the End of the Semester...

It's the End of the Semester...

It's hard to even focus on being fashionable when finals are right around the corner. Students become busy bees while cramming functions and loss-ratios into already tired brains- all while consuming gallons of coffee in one sitting.

Frankly, fashion is the last of my concerns during this time of the year. It's all about being comfortable. Here are some functionable college-ready pieces that will help you keep comfy while still looking pulled together. The look is very simple and casual= layering oversized sweatshirts, neutral colored fitted tight/pants, and frumpy Uggs (one of the staple shoes of college students). The trick is adding simple accessories and a cute chic beenie to individualized the overall standard look.

Good luck on those exams!! Study, study, study....
